How do I set up the Experian WOTC integration?

Last updated: September 30, 2026

Connect your Experian Employer Services account, then add the Experian field to a form. Candidates complete Experian's Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) questionnaire inside onboarding, and the eligibility result comes back to Onboarded automatically.

Before you start

  • Get your Partner Code, Client ID, and Client Secret from your Experian Employer Services contact. Experian will issue production credentials.

  • Make sure you can open Account Settings → Integrations in Onboarded.

  • Have the form you want to add WOTC to open in Form Studio, or know which one it is.

Steps

Setup has two parts. First you connect Experian, then you add the Experian field to a form.

Connect Experian

  1. Go to Account Settings → Integrations.

  2. Find Experian under Tax Credits and click Configure.

  3. In Environment, choose Production for live candidates.

  4. Enter your Partner Code, Client ID, and Client Secret.

  5. Click Save.

You should see an Account Connected message. The Experian card now shows Ready to process Experian requests.

Onboarded doesn't check your credentials when you save. The first time a candidate starts a screening is the first time they're used.

Add Experian to a form

  1. Open the form in Form Studio.

  2. On a page assigned to the employee, add an Integration field and set Integration to Experian.

  3. On a page assigned to the employer, add a second Integration field and set Integration to Experian.

  4. Save and deploy the form, and make sure a policy assigns it to candidates.

Don't skip the employer page. Onboarded writes Experian's result to the Experian field on that page. Without it, the screening still finishes at Experian, but the eligibility result never reaches the form and the form's employer step can't finish.

What your candidates see

The employee page shows a short screening form. First Name, Last Name, Email, Date of Birth, and Social Security Number fill in from the candidate's profile when those values exist. Anything missing, the candidate types in, along with their address. Social Security Number and the address are required.

When the candidate clicks Check Experian WOTC Eligibility, Experian's questionnaire opens inside the page. When they finish, they click Complete to move on.

A few things that come up in practice:

  • Candidates can pick up where they left off. If someone closes the browser partway through, the same questionnaire reopens the next time they come back.

  • Social Security Number and date of birth get saved to the profile. If the candidate enters either one here and their profile doesn't already have it, Onboarded saves it to the profile.

  • Put WOTC early. WOTC screening generally has to happen on or before the day of the job offer, so Experian recommends putting it in the application rather than after the offer letter.
