How do I use kiosk mode for TempWorks onboarding?

Last updated: May 28, 2026

Kiosk mode lets you leave a shared device — a tablet or lobby computer — open to an onboarding form. The screen automatically clears between employees so no one's information lingers for the next person.

When to use kiosk mode

Use kiosk mode when applicants or new hires walk into your office and complete onboarding on a device you provide, rather than on their own phone or computer. It's designed for front-desk tablets and lobby kiosks where multiple employees use the same screen back-to-back.

How it works

Kiosk mode is a wrapper page that displays your onboarding form inside a full-screen frame. Two things keep it safe for shared use:

  • Auto-reset on inactivity. If no one interacts with the screen for 3 minutes, a 30-second countdown appears. If still no activity, the page reloads and returns to the start of the onboarding form — ready for the next person.

  • Manual Reset button. A Reset button is always visible in the top-right corner. Staff can tap it at any time to immediately clear the screen.

Setting up a kiosk

Step 1 — Get your kiosk URL

Your Onboarded contact will give you a kiosk URL specific to your account. It looks like this:

https://app.onboarded.com/tempworks/kiosk?render_url=[your-onboarding-link]

The render_url is your TempWorks onboarding link — typically a job-apply or branch-selection URL tied to your account. If you don't have it, reach out to your Onboarded contact before continuing.

Step 2 — Open the kiosk URL on your device

  1. Open a browser on the device you're using as the kiosk — tablet, desktop, or any device with a browser.

  2. Navigate to your kiosk URL. The page loads with your onboarding form in the center and a Reset button in the top-right corner.

  3. Put the browser in full-screen mode (usually F11 on desktop, or use your browser's full-screen option). This prevents employees from accidentally navigating away from the kiosk.

Keep the tab open
Don't close the browser tab. The kiosk runs as a persistent page — if the tab is closed and reopened, the session restarts, but any form data in progress is lost.

Step 3 — Hand off to each employee

  1. Direct the employee to the device. They complete the onboarding form normally.

  2. When they're done, they (or a staff member) can tap Reset to immediately clear the screen for the next person. If no one taps Reset, the screen clears automatically after 3 minutes of inactivity.

Branch selection

If your kiosk URL includes branch selection, employees see a screen asking them to pick a branch (searchable by postal code) before the onboarding form loads. Once they select a branch and tap Continue, the form opens with that branch pre-set.

Troubleshooting

The screen isn't auto-resetting. The auto-reset only works when the onboarding form is served from the same domain as the kiosk page (app.onboarded.com). If your render_url points to a different domain, the inactivity timer is paused. Use the manual Reset button instead, and contact your Onboarded contact to get a same-domain URL.

The countdown appeared but the employee is still using the form. Any interaction — tap, scroll, or keystroke — resets the inactivity timer. If an employee is actively using the form, the countdown disappears as soon as they interact with it.

The form isn't loading. Check that the device has an internet connection and that the render_url in your kiosk URL is correct. You can paste just the render_url value into a new browser tab to verify it loads on its own.
