How do I redirect employees to my own site after they finish onboarding?

Last updated: September 25, 2026

Set a redirect URL on an onboarding link and Onboarded sends the employee to your own site once they finish their tasks, instead of leaving them on Onboarded's completion screen.

Where the setting lives

The redirect is a property of the onboarding link, not of a form, a task, or a policy. Wherever you generate a link, you can set where it ends.

The Create Onboarding Link panel in the dashboard

The Create Onboarding Link automation action

Steps

Set it on a single link

  1. Click Create Link on the employee, placement, or task record.

  2. Enter your URL in Redirect to. The helper text reads "Optional URL to redirect the user to upon completion." Include the full address, scheme and all — https://www.example.com/welcome.

  3. Create the link the way you normally would.

Prefill it for every link you create by hand

  1. Go to your account settings.

  2. Enter your URL in Default Dashboard Onboarding Redirect URL and save.

  3. Open Create Link again. You should see Redirect to already filled with that value. You can still change or clear it for an individual link.

The account default only prefills the dashboard panel. It doesn't apply to links created by an automation or through the API — those links have no redirect unless you set one on the action or pass redirect_to explicitly. If most of your links come from an automation, set the redirect on the automation action too.

What the employee sees

When the employee finishes, the completion screen still renders — the tasks summary with each task's status — but a banner appears above it counting down: "You'll continue onboarding in 3 seconds." After a few seconds the browser moves to your URL. A Continue now button lets them skip the wait.

The countdown length is fixed. There's no setting to make it longer, shorter, or immediate.

Onboarded also suppresses the completion confetti when a redirect is set, on the assumption that your destination page is the celebration.

What this doesn't do

  • It isn't per-form or per-task. The redirect fires once, after the employee finishes everything in that link — not after each individual form. To send someone somewhere after one specific document, generate a link scoped to that single task and set the redirect on it.

  • It doesn't replace the completion screen. The tasks summary still renders underneath the countdown banner. Themes change how that page looks, not what's on it.

  • Onboarded doesn't validate the URL. A typo sends the employee to a broken page with no warning, so test the address before you use it on real hires.

Verify

Generate a link against a throwaway employee record with the redirect set, complete the tasks, and confirm you land on your page. If you stay on the tasks summary with no countdown, the link was created without a redirect — check whether it came from an automation or the API rather than the dashboard panel.
