How do I distribute an automation to connected accounts?

Last updated: November 3, 2026

Send an automation from your platform account to your connected accounts, choose whether their copies stay locked to yours, and confirm it landed.

Before you start

  • Your account is a platform account. You'll see Connected Accounts and Bulk connect at the top of your sidebar.

  • The automation is published on your platform account. Connected accounts receive the current published version.

  • Read πŸ“„ Understanding distribution to connected accounts if you're not sure whether you want a locked copy or one the account owns.

Distribute one automation

Start here when you're setting up or changing a single automation.

  1. Go to Automations and open the automation.

  2. Open the … menu and click Connect.

You'll see every connected account, with its Distribution mode, Deployed version, and last Distribution result.

  3. Set the Default distribution mode. Choose Auto Deploy if every account you connect from now on should get this automation, or Don't distribute if not. This doesn't change accounts that are already connected.

  4. Select the checkboxes for the connected accounts you want to change.

  5. In the bar that appears, choose Auto Deploy in the mode picker and click Apply.

The Distribution column shows Distributing, then Distributed once each copy is in place.

If you want an account to get a copy it can edit instead, select it and click Deploy now without setting Auto Deploy. The account owns that copy from then on and won't receive your later updates.

To see every automation's setup at a glance, open the Connect tab on the Automations list. It shows each automation's default mode and how many accounts are on Auto Deploy.

Distribute several automations at once

Use Bulk connect when you're setting up a new account with your standard set, or rolling one change across many accounts.

  1. Click Bulk connect in the sidebar and stay on the Automations tab.

  2. Under Select automations, check each automation to include.

  3. Under Select accounts, check each connected account to include.

  4. Under Choose action, pick Set distribution mode, Deploy now, Remove distribution, or Recall.

With Set distribution mode, the picker starts on Each automation’s default. That connects each selected account at the automation's own default mode, leaves accounts that are already connected alone, and skips automations whose default is Don't distribute. Pick Auto Deploy instead to set every selected pair.

  5. Check the impact line before you apply. It tells you how many automation and account pairs the action will connect, update, or skip.

  6. Click the button at the bottom: Apply, Deploy now, Remove distribution, or Recall, depending on the action.

Recall deletes the copy in the connected account. Use Remove distribution if you only want to stop sending updates and let the account keep its copy. Deploy now also overwrites any edits the account made to its copy.

Verify

Go to Connected Accounts, open an account, and look at its Automations tab. Each automation you distributed shows its Distribution mode, the Deployed version, and Distributed in the Distribution column. A version marked Outdated means the account isn't on your latest published version yet; Up to date means it is.

To see it from the account's side, click Impersonate Account and open the automation. A copy on Auto Deploy shows a banner saying it's distributed by a platform account and can't be changed. The account can still switch it off with Disable Automation, and it stays off when you publish a new version.

If something didn't land:

  • The result is Failed. Click View activity on that row to see the error, then Retry. The Failed Distribution tab on Connected Accounts lists every failure from the last 14 days, with a Retry button on each row.

  • The automation isn't in the list. Automations that belong to a policy or a form are distributed with that policy or form, not on their own.

  • A new account didn't get it. The default only applies to accounts connected after you set it. Apply the mode to that account directly.

  • A suggested-task step does nothing in the account. Forms aren't sent with the automation. Distribute the form to that account too. See πŸ“„ How do I distribute a form to connected accounts?.
